Cheptiret- The rolling Wheel

The name CHEPTIRET pronounced as (cheep-tii-reet) is a Kalenjin word meaning the wheel. Little is known about when this name came into being and by who, but it is certainly in the early sixties. It was probably namend by the natives who were returning from the (reserve) where they had been zoned by the colonial government. When they arrived they found the area highly mechanised by the british-settler-farmers who were preparing to go since kenya was at indipendence mood.  They found the wind-mills, tractors, carts and other vehicles being used for farming activities unlike where they came from which was manual. Strange to them as they could imagine they named the area the place of the rolling wheels (cheptiret)
